Consumer Directed Services

About the CDS Program

Most ill or disabled Missourians can remain in their own homes and avoid or delay institutionalization with the help of support services.  Home and community-based services, administered by the Division of Senior and Disability Services (DSDS), are available to eligible persons 60 or older and to adults with disabilities between the ages of 18 and 59.

Consumer-directed services (CDS) are provided to persons with a physical disability and do not include any task performed by a licensed professional.  A participant of CDS must be able to direct the care planning process and hire an attendant. In general, CDS consists of personal care tasks such as:

  • Bathing

  • Dressing

  • Grooming

  • Toileting

  • Ostomy/colostomy hygiene

  • Obtaining medication

  • Transferring

  • Range of motion

  • Meal preparation/feeding/cleanup

  • Housekeeping/laundry
